Are you wishing after owning the Echo for awhile that you had purchased the Tap because of it’s portability? Or do you wish you had purchased the Dot because of its size and ease of being able to take it everywhere?

I have the Tap, but I don’t like having to press the talk button to access Alexa.  The Dot is nice, but it is small. The audio on it is fine for me, but for others they may be expecting something louder when it comes to playing music. My sister bought a Echo and loves it, but complained that is not portable. She didn’t like having to unplug it from one room to move it to another one. I can understand that. However, most users have the same complaint. Some have just bought additional Echos, not so much for portability, but because of their Smarthome accessories.

I usually check forums, Twitter and other sites for any updates on accessories or skills when it comes to the Echo. I found a site that stated that Amazon was selling battery bases for the Echo to make it portable for users. I couldn’t believe it because not much has been said about the bases.

I researched it and found that Amazon had several for sale on their site. It seems as though, the most popular one is made by Koozie LLC, but it is expensive for $99.00 since it will last for 18 hours on one charge.

Intelligent Battery Boot for Amazon Echo

This base was available for purchase in May 2016, .after being introduced in April. It is designed to be attached to the base of the Echo. It recharges using the Echo power adapter. The Intelligent battery management system allows the user to leave the power adapter continuously plugged into the Battery Boot without having to worry about damaging the battery. The manufacturer states the battery base will last up to six hours of playback time.

Can the Echo be charged in the car? No, the Battery Boot for the Echo uses the Amazon Echo power adapter for charging so unless you have an AC outlet in your car it is not possible to charge the Battery Base in this way.  Also , the Echo has to be within your WiFi network. If you take the Echo outside of your network , it will quit responding and the music will stop playing.

How long does the battery last? The battery lasts about 6 hours between charges.

Will this base work with the Echo Dot?  No. The Dot has a different charging plug, but the Dot can be charged from any smartphone battery charger with a microUSB connector.

Is there a version of the battery base for the Echo Dot? No, not at this time.

Does the battery need to be turned off when charging? The Battery Base will still power the Echo while it is being charged. Users can continue using the Echo continuously either when it is connected to an AC outlet or while it is in portable mode. Very nice and convenient.

Does using the battery base with the Echo mount because of the extra height affect the stability of the Echo? The extra weight and the little extra footprint helps the stability.

Once installed in the base is there any reason to remove the Echo? Removing the Battery Base is simple, it’s not really necessary since you can use Echo while the Battery Base is being charged. Most users will leave the Battery Base attached and plugged in most of the time and just unplug it when they need to move the Echo to another room or outside the home.

Does the battery come with its own charge cable, or does it use the current echo power cable.It uses the same power cord that comes with the Echo.

Can extra batteries be ordered for the Battery Base? Unfortunately, no. The Battery Base has one embedded Lithium ion battery. It is not possible to add additional cells. The battery is rechargeable and embedded inside the Battery Base so there is no way to add extra batteries.

The Intelligent Battery Base appears to be a good buy. Although some users have expressed some issues with charging. However, the manufacturer has been responsive to any concerns from buyers.

It’s very easy to use. Slide the Battery Boot on to the bottom of the Echo. The Battery Base includes LED indicators for low battery and charge status, an on/off button to maximize battery life, silicon inner material for secure grip on the Echo, and a no-slip base.
