The MegaBoot Battery Boot allows full functionality and portability of the Amazon Echo. In order to really enjoy the Amazon Echo speaker, it needs to be portable. Some buyers were disappointed in their purchase and thought the better buy would be the Tap.
Battery Boot is a new 3rd-party accessory for the Amazon Echo that adds a battery to the bottom of the device. After you own the Echo for awhile, you come to the conclusion that you won’t be able to move it without the power cord. If you move it, the Echo will shut down. You will have to wait for it to re-boot before being able to use it gain. Some users of the Echo bought more devices to use in other rooms. Now, it appears that the portability of the Echo is no longer an issue.
Enter the new introduction of Battery Boots. There are three models. The MegaBoot has the longest battery life of the three. These are some neat bases because they do not have the LED lights on the front like other bases, you don’t have to worry about wires going everywhere and it fits like a glove on the Echo.
When looking at this accessory, you will find that the Battery Boots all look the same. Their differences is the longevity of the battery and the power adapter used to charge it. For example, the Megaboot will last up to 20 hours, the Powerboot up to 14 hours and the Ecoboot up to six hours.
I purchased the Powerboot. It was easy to set up. The knowledge of knowing now I can just pick up my Echo and take it with me anywhere in the house is a great feeling. I thought with the addition of the battery boot that it would make the Echo heavier, but it doesn’t. It feels about the same. It is also an attractive addition to the Echo. The only issue is that I can’t use the skin I purchased for it.
Once attached you won’t notice the boot on. The notch on the front of the battery boot is there so the Echo’s connection light can still be seen while it is attached. The smaller Ecoboot uses the Echo’s power cable. However, if you buy the EcoBoot, you can upgrade to the PowerBoot. All you would have to do is purchase the power cord for the device when it comes available.
The Echo can be used while it is being charged to limit downtime. Once it is completely charged, the battery goes into “standby” mode so it doesn’t drain while plugged in. The Battery Boot is not compatible with the Echo Dot . Because it uses a micro USB cable to charge, while the Echo has a round power port for charging.
If you don’t want to give up the always on listening functionality and superior sound of the Amazon Echo, then one of the Battery Boots may be for you.

Honorable Mention CON about the BatteryBoot
This is what the consumer calls one of those hard to describe observations. The buyer states the jack for the power to the boot is 180 degrees opposite from the Echo. When plugged in the Echo is facing backwards, which means the mic button is upside down when looking on top of the device. Further, the volume ring light instead of turning it to the left to lower the volume, you have to turn it in the opposite direction when the Echo is plugged in charging.
The boot covers the Amazon logo located on the front of the Echo. When charging the device, the logo will face the wall where your outlet is located. The power light which is located in the rear of the device near the power port is now in the front because of the notch in the battery boot that allows it to show. Basically, because of the addition of the battery boot, the Echo’s functions on top are backwards if used manually. This is so to prevent cord clutter and keep it hidden. I didn’t notice all this, but it is an interesting fact.
