This is the 20W GGMM portable speaker for the 2nd gen Echo Dot. You get up to 8 hours battery life from this speaker once it’s charged. The Dot is placed on top of the speaker and plugged into it. The Dot obtains it’s power source from the speaker in case you want to take the speaker with you in another room of your home.
When I purchased my Dot, it became inconvenient to use it because it was not mobile. I also noticed where my Echo Dot’s speaker was not very loud and one of the solutions was that I could connect it to my stereo system and use the larger speakers or even attaching it to a Bluetooth speaker. Both ideas are great, but. . .
I didn’t want to connect to my stereo system because it meant that I would have the same problem, the location of the Dot with improved audio. If I wanted to use it in another room, I would have to move it again, but without my nice sounding stereo speakers.
Although Bluetooth is one of my favorite ways to connect audio, I wasn’t leaning that way because it meant I would have two devices to carry around with me and let’s not forget, the Dot has to be plugged in at all times and near a Wi-Fi connection . So, I set out to solve my issues by finding a stereo speaker that would also supply power to the Dot and most importantly, I could carry it from room to room or even outside while working in the yard or garage.
I was successful in finding some really great speakers for my Dot. When looking for any accessory for my cool gadgets, it’s important to me that they can server more than one purpose. I like devices that are versatile and their functionality can be expanded for other uses and enjoyment. Keep in mind that the speakers are not waterproof or water-resistant. Let’s take a look at those speakers.

This speaker bothers me because you can’t charge non-stop like with other speakers. I like the reviews regarding the sound, voice recognition, response and ease of use which most have been positive. I wouldn’t want to remember when or when not to charge. It appears to be a good product and versatile which means you can connect another device to the speaker for charging.

I did purchase this speaker. The sound quality is good. I use it with the Dot and other devices using the AUX cable. It’s a little heavy when having to move it around the house, but I can’t really complain. I like the sound. I play it sometimes when I’m in the shower and I can actually hear it over the water and it’s not so loud where it disturbs my neighbors.
One customer shared that at times the Dot goes offline after an unspecified time (doesn’t know how long) has lapsed. It needs to be rebooted by pressing the power button on the back and then you will need to wait for the Dot to power up. Waiting for the Dot to power up and re-connect to Wi-Fi will occur if the speaker is turned off or needs to be charged.
Apparently, the Seller responded to another buyer who complained the speaker shuts down after 3 or 4 days of continual use. Seller states, this is normal. The speaker powers off every 3 or 4 days. It is done to protect the speaker. Press the power button to turn speaker back on.

I like how long the charge lasts with this speaker. Most reviewers were pleased with the sound, but states it is not on par with a regular Echo. In other words, it’s not for audiophiles. If you’re not pining for perfection, this speaker/battery would be a good buy. It all comes down to a matter of need.

This speaker basically turns the Dot into the Tap or Echo. It only exists to boost the sound of the Dot. Most buyers were not impressed with the sound. Normally, when I evaluate products I like to see 5 star ratings at least in the upper 60s or lower 70s. Since the speaker needs to remain plugged in, it defeats the goal of portability. I included it as a choice, but even though you may just want the speaker, it appears to be a mediocre audio experience.
